Those that are interested in the building of this u-4erpaas would like to know what authority the highway oo~nission has to ignore the mandate of the law passed in 1929. ! am quite sure that all of us wish to keep it out of polities.. Whereupon the County ~udgs was requested to transmit the original letter of Mr. lgAppreah t to Honorable D. C. Greet, State Highway Engineer, State Highway D, ep,arment et Austin, Texas, with request that the matter be given prompt and serious attention. On m~tion duly saoonded end unanimously adopted, the Court voted to authorize all emmbers of the Commissioners Court to attend the Annual Conven~on of the County Judges and CommAssioners of Texas, to be held at Dallas on September 19, 20, and 21, 19~8, on offiolal business of Brazes County, with thai r actual expenses inourred on this trip to be paid out of the Om, oral Fund. In the sase motion, the 0ourt voted to allow Sheriff ~. W. Hamilton a refund of his ao~ual expenses insulted in attending the A~nual Convan~ton of the Texas Sheriffs Assoolatt on to be held at Austin, Texas, du~lng the month of September, 19~8, and allow County Cle~ A. B. Syptak his aotual expenses to be tnourred in attending the Annual Convention of the Texas Assoolation of County Clerks to be held at Laredo, Texas, during the month of Ootobar, 1~8. On motion duly seoondsd and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay all bills which have bean properly filed and approved and for whioh budgeted funds ara available. TO ALL COUNTY COMML~SXONER~ COURTS AND CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE: Gan tJ. emsn,' ' The purpose of this letter is to aoquaint you with the prooeduro for tho laotion of roads for inolualon in the new State-Federal Seoondary Road Program of The Federal Highway Asr of 1~8 provides for Federal ansistanoa in the oo~tr2etion of roads for the fisoal years 19~0 and 1951. The new law follows the same pattern of the Highway Act of 19~4 exoept the amount of Federal funds has been reduoed by 10% and covers only a two-year period. Federal funds under the Asr ,will besoms ,available no~ later than ~uly 1, 1949. The State will match the Federal funds, build and maintain the roads. The Counties will be required to furnish right-of-way free of goat, State. The Aot provides for the aeleotion of roads to be oonstruoted on the Fedsral*aZd ': Secondary System, whish lnoludes farm-to-market roads, to be made by the ~tghway Depart m~nt i,n,e,ooperatton with the County Commissioners Courts.
