Foster appeared before the Court as a co~mitteo fro~ the local Post of the American Legion for e discussion of the question of a county 8orv~co officer for Bras08 County. Tho member8 of the Court discussed this matter and a~oed that they ~ould tuke it under advisement for possible inclusion in the bud§et for Tax Assessor-Collector I. M. Weedon appeared before the Court and requested an add: lonal allocation of fund8 for extra help for his office for the remainder of the calendar year 1958, ~nd reported t~at after a conference ~th County Auditor F. J. Vitopll0 at least $195~o00 additional ~Unds ~ould be required. ~hereupon on motion duly seconded ~nd unan- imously adopted, the Court voted to allocate an additional $2,000o00 to the office of Tax Assessor-Collector of Braso~ County for the employment of extra help dur~n~ the remainder of the calendar year Commissioner ~illLam A. Conrad moved that the current bill o~ $21~.00 o~lr~ to Scardino ~otor Company of Bryan, Texas, and covering the cost of a new motor ~or the tr~ck nos o~ned and operated by the County be pro-rated and paid one-third from each of'Pr,e- cincts 2,~, and 5, and that Precinct No, 1 be relieved of the payment off any part of th~s penseo The motion was adopted by a majority vote of the Court ~ith affirmative votes there- for being case by Commissioners Conrad and Burki~alter, and ~th Comm~seloner Burlin against the motion. Co~issloner Portar~eld and County Judge Ware voted present. Came on to be considered and canvassed the returns ~rom special election held on Saturday, July ~, 1~58, by the duly qualified voters ~ho are resident property taxpayin~ citizens of Brazos County Co~on School District No. 1, Templeman, for increasin~ the lev~ of local school mainte~ance tax in said district, all as more fully set up and provided in proper orders heretofore issued by the County Judge of Brazos County. ¥~ereupon~ such canvass of the returns was duly made and from which the Court found and declared that at said election a to,al off nine votes were cast as follow: FOR increasi~ the lev~ of local school maintenance tax from thirty- five (]~ cents to fifty (~0~) cents oh the$100oO0 valuation of taxable property ~thin Brazos County Co~on School District No. 1~ Templeman ........................... ~ votes AGAINST increasin~ the levy of local school ~aintenance tax from thirty-Five (~¢) cents to fifty (~0¢) cents'on the $100.00 ' valuation of taxable property w~thin Brazos County Common School Whereupon it was found and officially declared by the Court that the duly qualified voters who are resident property taxpaying citizens of said Brazos County Common School Dis- trict No. 1, Templeman, had officially voted to increase the local maintenance .tax of said school district from thirty-five (3~¢) cents to fifty (~0~ cents, which increase.and rate go into effect from and after the first day of October, 1958, and which increased rate shall be used in the 1959 county budget, which is required to be prepared in July of 1958. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Cour~ voted to pay all bills which had been properly filed and approved and for which budgeted funds are.available. On motion duly seconded end unanimously adopted, the Court adjourned.
