- On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, -the Court voted to authorize the

t County-Clerk to record the plat and dedication of PRAIRIE VIEW HEIGHTS, a subdivision of a
part of 125 acres of land in the Richard Carter League, Brazos County, Texas, as submitted by.
Ed Putz under date of February 4, 1947; with the distinct stipulation, however, that Brazos
county shall not thereby become liable for the construction or maintenance of any streets or
roads.

of the Peace, Precinct No. 7, Brazos County, Wellborn, Texas, who took his-oath of office be-

It having been made to appear to the Commissioners' Court that the City of Bryan;,Texa
d through its City Secretary, is requesting, compensation from Brazos County for services ren-;
dered in recording births and deaths as required -by Article 4,477 of the Revised Civil Statute

b of Texas, and more particularly the Vital Statistics section thereof covered by Rules. 34=a
through 55-a, and especially Rules 36-a and 53-a, whereby it is provided that the City Seors-
Q tary of the City of Bryan, acting as a Local Registrar of Vital Statistics, shall be paid the
sum of fifty cents for each certificate of birth or death properly registered and filed with
k the County Clerk of Brazos County, and verified by monthly certificates issued by the State
Registrar of Vital Statistics at Austin, Texas, and returned to the County.
y Whereupon, after motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted that
offeotive from and including the oertifioate received from the State Registrar of Vital Statis
tics at Austin, Texas, for the month of February, 1947, and monthly thereafter, Brazos County

pay from its General Fund budget item for Vital Statistics, to the City of Bryan at Bryan,
Texas, the sum of fifty cents for each birth and death certificate so certified as having been
sr.
(filed and recorded by the City Secretary of said City for the preceding month; and it was fur-
ther ordered that this arrangement be established as a fixed policy and continued indefinitely
In accordance with the law and pursuant to public advertisement for bide, the Court too
up the matter of the selection of a depository bank for county funds for the two-year period
beginning February 10, 1947. Only one bid was received by the Court, being a proposition sub-
witted by the First ?rational Bank of Bryan, at Bryan, Texas, contained in the following oommun

and legally chosen by the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, as County Depository
for said county for a period of two years ending sixty,days from the time fixed by law for
the next selection of a depository, upon its bidding and agreeing to pay the County of Brazos')
interest on "time deposits" on daily balances kept in said depository of said County of Brazos
at the rate of 1 per cent per annum, said interest payable monthly.'

COTWY, TEXAS : KNOW ALL MEN BY TRESS PRESENTS:
The undersigned'bank, the First National Bank of Bryan, of Bryan, Texas, a member of
the pederal Deposit Insurance Corporation, desires to become the county. school fund depositor,
of Brazos County, Texas, under the terms of an Act of the Federal Congress providing for the
protection of deposits up to Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00)-
The applicant, (No officer, director or stockholder of which is a member of the Com-
missioners' Court), agrees to become liable for all the school funds of the County of Brazos,
State of Texas, that may be deposited with it, including the funds of each common school-dis-
triot, the County Available Fund, the County Administration Fund, the County Board Trans-
portation Fund, and the Cash Item in the County Permanent Fund. If this application is
accepted and the applicant is designated,ae the depository of the school funds of Brazos
County, Texas, the applicant agrees to the following, to wit:
1. That the tenure of this contract and agreement shall be for a period of two years
dating from the 10th day of February, A. D. 1947, and ending sixty days from the time fixed b,
law for the next selection of a depository;
2. That it will safely keep and faithfully disburse the school funds according to Is

The Court heard a delegation of Brazos County stook men and farmers who detailed

their losses by reason of the depredations of the predatory animals known as bob-cats or

lynx-oats. Because of these losses and the rather high prevalence of these
predatory ani-

mals, these Brazos County citizens were urgent in their request to the Court that a sub-
stantial bounty be paid by the County for the killing of these animals within the boundaries
'

of Brazos County. After detailed discussion of the matter and on motion duly seconded and
unanimously adopted, the Court voted to establish a bounty of $20.00 each on bob-cats or lynx
.

oats actually killed within Brazos,County, and to pay this expense from the General Fund;
.;provided, however, that payment shall be made on written certificate of the Deputy State
Came Warden operating in Brazos County, made after he has seen the dead animal or animals,

'and which certificate shall thereafter be submitted to the County Judge for final approval

and subsequent payment.

On request of Mrs. J. E. Smith, who appeared before the Court and outlined justify-
ing reasons therefor, by motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to
authorize the Tax Assessor-Collector of Brazos County to omit the accrued penalties and int-

erest on the County's portion of delinquent taxes for the year 1941 on the South 65'feet of

psychopathic ward.
13 Veterans were sent by ambulance to hospitals over the state.
Have 60 establishments approved for,training of veterans under the G.I. bill of rights.
Have plaoed 336 Veterans training on the job since Jan. 2nd, 1946.

VMEREAS, on the 21st day of January, A. D. 1947, there was presented to me a
petition for an election in Arazos County Common School District No. 25, Bowman, of Brazos
County,, Texas, to determine whether or not a majority of the resident property taxpaying oit-
izens who are qualified voters in said district, are in favor of decreasing the local school
i, maintenance tax from One Dollar ($1.00) to Ten Cents (10$) per $100.00 valuation of taxable
property situated,within said district; and
WHEREAS, said petition bears the signatures of R. Y. Cobb and 14 other persons,
oonstituting a majority of the resident property taxpaying citizens of Brazos County Common
School District No. 25, Bowman, and said petition is otherwise in conformity with the law; and
WHEREAS, it appears that Brazos County contains a population of 26,977, according to
the 1940 United States census, and furthermore that said Common School District No. 25 has
heretofore been properly and legally established, and that it contains an area of 19-2/10
square miles; and
WHEREAS, it'appears that said Common School District No. 25 is now collecting and
using a local maintenace tax of One ($1.00) Dollar per $100.00 valuation of taxable property
within said district.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, A. S. Ware, in my official capacity as County Judge of Brazos
I•'•„4; County, Texas, in response to said petition, do hereby 'order, that an election be held on
'Saturday, February 6, 1947, at the Bowman School House in said Common School District No. 25, i

Whereupon a motion-was made, duly•seoonded'and unanimously adopted by the Court to
accept the foregoing bid and 2ivs,the work done as specified therein,.and payment therefor to
be made from the Permanent Improvements Fund in the current budget.
Whereupon the Court adjourned.

The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County; Texas, met in special session in the office
of the County Judge at the bourthouse, at ten o'olook a. m.,,Saturday, February 22, 1947, with
the following members present:
A. S. Ware, County Judge, presiding;
Norton R. Burkhalter, Commissioner, Preolnot No. l;
William A. Conrad, Commissioner, Preoinot-No. 2;
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commiseloner,'Precinct,NO. 3; and'
Newton Burlin, Commissioner, Precinct No. 4.
on motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to authorize the
County Clerk to record the revised plat and dedication of the Marshall 0. Peters Subdivision
of a portion of the John H. Jones League, Brazos County, Texas,.as submitted by N. 0. Peters
under date of rebruary 21, 1947; with the distinct stipulation, however, that Brazoe'County
shall not thereby become liable for the construction or maintenance of any streets or roads.

The Court received and considered the following proposition and quotation from the
Arowning-Ferris Company of Houston, Texas, on a 3¢ yard capacity Bucyrus dirt scraper, with
hydraulic controls, and which is to be fitted for connection to a D-6 Uaterpillartraotor:
"Bucyrus Brie Model 0-38 Scraper; capacity 31 S. truck measure; to accompany D-6 Cat.
Tractor 2765.64 f.o.b., Houston. Browning Ferris Mob. Co., 8111 Greenwood. Prices
subject to change."
Whereupon,' motion was made, duly seconded and unanimously adopted, to buy the above
described dirt scraper at the quoted price of $2765.64, plus the actual cost of the equipment
for attaching it to the D-6 Caterpillar tractor, which equipment is to be assigned to Precinct
No. 4, with Mr. Newton Burlin as Commissioner; and to pay the cost from the new equipment
item in the Road and Bridge budget so far as unexpended funds will permit, with the balance
of the cost of this equipment to be paid from funds allocated to Precinct No. 4, with the
understanding that this expenditure of preoinot funds will be refunded frcm proceeds of sale
of the old bull-dozer which is now being readied for sale as surplus equipment.
