County Judge,
Brazos County,
Bryan, Texas
Dear Judge ?/are:
We have under contract with the Civil Aeronautics Adminlstratfon the construction of runways
for the College, Station Airport, a war project.
To carry on the work involved, there will be required the unlaoding of e large amount of
sand, igravel, and cement from railroad cars. Satisfactory facilities for such unloading
are not available with either of the railroads in effective reach of the airport, ~ith
the ex,caption of one track belonging to the I. & G. N. l~allroad. The I. & ~. N. Railroad
Company has made available for our use a spur track paralleling the county road and Just
opposite the baseball field of the College.
To utilize that track,~ however, we must have considerable quahtity of ground space upon
which to stockpile large quantities of s~nd and ~ravel. The road right-of-way alongside
of the railroad right-of-way would afford adequate area for us, if it san be made
It is, therefore, respectfully requested' of the Brazos County ¢omm~lssioners Court that
we be permitted, for the approximately ninety days required for the const~uction of the
airport, to close the county road and use the road right-of-way for the stockpiling of
materials. The portion of the road to be closed would be that lying between the tntrance
to the College property at the athleti~-park and' the first road south of the railroad to'er.
Traffic would be diverted through' the grounds of the A & M. Coll~ge, permission for which
routing will be secured.
It is agreed that ,upon the completion of our work at the airport, the roadway would be
returned in the good condition in which i~ now exists.
The approval of the C~mmissioners Court of this request would be very much appreciated.
Yours very' truly
AUSTIN ROAD COMPANY
