NOTICE OF WORKSHOP SESSION
AND AGENDA
BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
MARCH 4, 2003
THE COMMISSIONERS COURT WILL CONDUCT A WORKSHOP SESSION ON
TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 2003, AT 1:30 P.M. IN ROOM 108 OF THE BRAZOS COUNTY
COURTHOUSE, 300 EAST 26"' STREET, BRYAN, TEXAS.
I . Call to Order.
2. Conduct a discussion regarding planning for immediate and future needs for
County facilities to include, but not limited to, expansion, construction, remodel
and acquisition.
3. Adjourn.

WORKSHOP SESSION
MARCH 4, 2003
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in a
Workshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 1:30
• p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, with the following members of
the Court present:
Randy Sims, County Judge, Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Duane Peters, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4, Absent
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The Commissioners Court met in Workshop Session to
discuss planning for immediate and future needs for county
facilities to include, but not limited to, expansion,
• construction, remodel and acquisition.
The following spoke:
a. Sheriff - his top priority is to have his entire
operation in one place and not scattered like it is
now.
b. Ernie Laney, Director of Information Technology
Department - very expensive to move the IT
department, therefore would like to move only one

time. The fire department building is for sale and
would fit needs.
c. Ed Elmore, Chairman of Law Library Committee - would
like space to be made available in the Courthouse or
in the Bryan Public Library for a computer to access
West Law.
d. Bill Turner, District Attorney - asked for
approximately 6,500 feet of additional space.
e. Steve Smith, Judge, 361st District Court suggested
redesigning the Courtrooms.
f. J. D. Langley, Judge, 85th District Court - suggested
the Court continue with the current plan as
discussed in the workshop held September 24, 2002.
g. Randy Sims, County Judge -liked idea of moving the
Tax Office and the Appraisal District to the Brazos
Center after the Exposition Center is completed.
h. Karen McQueen said she would consider moving the
real estate records to the Brazos Center.
i. Kenny Mallard, Commissioner, Precinct 3 - liked the
idea of a satellite office in the south end of the
county.
j. Demetrios Basdekas, Citizen - asked what the County
will do with the large parking lot at the Brazos
Center.
k. Carlos Guitron, Director of Building Maintenance -
discussed storage issues and suggested using metal
storage buildings.
1. Kenny Mallard, Commissioner, Precinct 3 - spoke of
adding a second floor to the Health Department
building.
m. The Purchasing Department asked for additional space
for storage.
n. The old Juvenile Recreation Yard will be enclosed
for storage.

o. Tommy Munoz, Court Coordinator, County Court at Law
#2 - asked if the District Clerk's office couldn't
employ 3 people to scan documents.
p. Steve Smith, Judge, 361St District Court - brought up
issue of courtrooms not being ADA compliant.
q. Arlene Parchman, Director of Community Supervision -
asked that the elevator at the annex be fixed.
r. Ernie Laney, Director of the Information Technology
Department - voiced concern about electronic storage
space.
• s. Randy Sims, County Judge suggested forming a
committee to keep these issues alive and will put
this on a future agenda.
There being no further commentary, the workshop session
was adjourned.
