BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
THE COMMISSIONERS COURT WILL MEET IN A SPECIAL CALLED SESSION ON
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2003 AT 9:00 A.M. IN ROOM 102 OF THE BRAZOS
CENTER, 3232 BRIARCREST DRIVE, BRYAN, TEXAS.
CONGRESSMAN JOHN CARTER WILL ADDRESS THE COURT AND DISCUSS
ISSUES RELEVANT TO BRAZOS COUNTY.
The Brazos Center is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for sign
interpretive services must be made two business days before the meeting. To make arrangements, call (979) 361-

COMMISSIONERS' COURT
SPECIAL MEETING
JANUARY 22, 2003
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of
Brazos County, Texas was held at the Brazos Center in
Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, January 22, 2003, with the following members
of the Court present:
Randy Sims, County Judge, Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Duane Peters, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
The attached sheet contains the names of the
citizens and officials that were in attendance.
The County Judge called the meeting to order and
then welcomed United States Congressman John Carter.
Congressman Carter spoke about the committees he's
working on and his goals. He asked the public to speak
on issues of concern. The following people made comment:
1. County Judge addressed the gasoline tax increases
paid to the federal government but said that
states and counties not seeing their share of the
proceeds. He also spoke about rail projects.
2.Dan Bates asked for help in establishing a mental
hospital here in Brazos County and for help in

3. Alvin Jones discussed transportation issues.
Congressman Carter informed him that Congressman
Burgess had been assigned to the transportation
committee.
4. Congressman Carter commented on Veteran's health
care issues and offered to do all he could to
expand the clinic's services for veterans.

5. James Massey, College Station Mayor Pro Temp
commented on food safety Inspection Service and
asked for help to make sure this is extended
another five years. He also asked for
Congressman Carter's help with a mass transit
project.
6. Commissioner Tony Jones addressed water issues
and environmental issues. Congressman Carter
said these issues were on the agenda and would be
revisited.
7. Demerle Giordano, Emergency Management
Coordinator asked for comments on Homeland
Security Act.
There being no further business to come before the
Court, the meeting was adjourned.
