THE COMMISSIONERS COURT WILL CONDUCT A PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER
THE ADOPTION OF AN ORDER PROVIDING FOR AN AMENDMENT TO THE
COUNTY FLOOD PLAIN ORDER
THE DATE OF THE HEARING WILL BE TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2002 AND THE
TIME OF THE HEARING WILL BE 10:00 A.M. THE HEARING WILL BE CONDUCTED
IN THE COMMISSIONERS COURTROOM OF THE BRAZOS COUNTY COURTHOUSE,
300 EAST 26TH STREET, SUITE 115, BRYAN, TEXAS.
ALL INTERESTED PARTIES ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
The Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for
sign interpretive services must be made two business days before the meeting. To make

PUBLIC HEARING
JANUARY 29, 2002
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a
Public Hearing to consider the Adoption of an Order providing
for an amendment to the County Flood Plain Order. The meeting
was held in the Commissioners Courtroom in the Courthouse, 300
East 26th Street, Suite 115 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas,
beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, with the
following members of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
C. B. Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The County Judge turned the meeting over to Ray Crow,
representative of the Road and Bridge Department who explained
that Section B of the Brazos County Flood Plain Regulations
needed to be amended to make the ordinance more enforceable.
He outlined some of the problems encountered like structures
being built before studies were completed or structures being
built in spite of them being in the flood plain. He
recommended fines be increased from $25 a day to $500 a day
for violations.

Commissioner C. B. Jones asked if this was really a
prgblem. Mr. Crow replied this amendment would allow them to
enforce the issue. The County is regulated by the Federal
Emergency Management Authority (FEMA). If audited and found to
be in non compliance of standards, the county would be placed
on probation and county residents could lose flood insurance.
There being no further comment, the County Judge declared
the Public hearing closed.
