BRYAH,TEXAS BY BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT AUGUST 24, 2001 • Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will beheld in the 3611 District Courtroom of the Brazos County Courthouse, 300 East 261' Street, Suite 309, Bryan, Texas on Friday, August 24, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. for the purpose of discussing a tax increase for 2001 taxes. Taxpayers and other interested parties are invited to attend and be heard at this time. The Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for sign interpretive services must be made two business days before the meeting. To make arrangements, call (979) 3614102. 0 r COMMISSIONERS' COURT PUBLIC HEARING AUGUST 24, 2001 The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a Public Hearing to consider the proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding year by 7.7752 percent. The meeting was held in the 361" District Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2001, with the following members of the Court present: Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding; Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Wm.S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2 via telephone; Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4; Karen McQueen, County Clerk. Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance. The County Judge announced that anytime the proposed tax rate is greater than 3W of the effective tax rate it requires a public hearing. Under this proposal, taxes on the average homestead would increase by $31.93 or 8.81 percent compared with last year's taxes. Comparing tax rates without adjusting for changes in property value, the tax rate would increase by $0.0' per $100 of taxable value or 2.44 percent compared to last year's tax rate. The following persons spoke on behalf of the Sheriff's request for a 15% salary increase for his department and that the tax increase be enough to cover the salary request: Chris Kirk, Brazos County Sheriff J.J. Your individual taxes may increase at a greater or lesser rate, or even decrease, depending on the change in the taxable value of your property in relation to the change in taxable value of all other property and the tax rate that is adopted. The public hearing will be held on Friday, August 24, 2001 at 3:00 PM in the 361'` District Courtroom, Brazos County Courthouse, 300 E 26`s St., Suite 305, Bryan, Texas. FOR the proposal: Alvin W. Again, your individual taxes may be higher or lower, depending on the taxable value of your property. Comparing tax rates without adjusting for changes in property value, the tax rate would increase by $0.01 per $100 of taxable value or 2.44 percent compared to last year's tax rate. These tax rate figures are not adjusted for changes in the taxable value of property. Criminal Justice Mandate • The Brazos County Auditor certifies that Brazos County has spent $371,270 in the previous 12 months beginning October 1, 1999, for the maintenance and operations cost of keeping inmates sentenced to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The Brazos County Sheriff has provided information on these costs, minus the state revenues received for reimbursement of such costs. Enhanced Indigent Health Care Expenditures Brazos County spent $1,470,000 from October 1, 2000 to September 30, 2001 on enhanced indigent health care at the increased minimum eligibility standards, less the amount of state assistance.
