ON THE BRAZOS COUNTY BUDGET
FOR FISCAL YEAR ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 2002

AUGUST 24, 2001
Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will beheld in the 3611 District Courtroom of the Brazos
County Courthouse, 300 East 26'' Street, Suite 309, Bryan, Texas on Friday, August 24, 2001 at
9:00 a.m. for the purpose of discussing the proposed budget for fiscal year ending September 30,
2002. Taxpayers and other interested parties are invited to attend and be heard at this time.
Said budget is filed with the County Clerk and will remain on file in the office of the County Clerk
in accordance with existing State Statutes. Taxpayers and others interested are urged to acquaint
themselves with the said budget during the time it remains on file with the County Clerk before the
hearing.
The Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for
sign interpretive services must be made two business days before the meeting. To make

COMMISSIONERS' COURT
PUBLIC HEARING
AUGUST 24, 2001
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a
Public Hearing to consider the proposed budget for fiscal year
ending September 30, 2002. The meeting was held in the 361"
District Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County,
Texas, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2001, with
the following members of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2 via
telephone;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The County Judge asked those in attendance to please
limit their remarks to 5 minutes after which he opened the
floor to comment.
Carlos Guitron, Building Maintenance Director -
Stated that during budget hearings he had asked
that a Tech I position be changed to a Tech II. He
said that he believed that this had been agreed
upon at the meeting. He then asked that the
oversight be corrected.
Marc Hamlin, District Clerk - requested temporary
personnel during his budget hearing and believed it
had been agreed upon in the meeting. He also
requested the reclassification of a position from a
Group 2, Step 1 to a Group 8, Step 1. Along with,
three (3) part time positions to be classified at a
Group 8, Step 1 and one 3/4 time position to be
classified at the group 8 step 1 level. He pointed
out that employee #4008 was budgeted at a Group 11,
Step 10 originally, but the budget now reflects a
Group 11, Step 8. He asked that this be corrected.
Chris Kirk, Sheriff - asked for additional staff.
Capital requests included mobile radios, light
bars, sirens, cages, body armor, a shotgun, hand-
held radios and office furniture. He then
requested salary increases across the board in the
amount of 15 percent.
Jim Kubobiak, county Attorney requested a $5,000
salary increase for all prosecutors.

Commissioners Court meeting August 24, 2001
James Marrow, Constable, Precinct 2 - requested
wages be increased for hourly employees, and 3/4
time clerk's position be added to the budget
increases to the following line items, computer
support, office supplies, training, telephones,
vehicle maintenance, and gasoline. Capital
requests included video equipment, 35mm camera,
more powerful radio, hand-held radios, radar unit
and a new leased vehicle, while retaining current
vehicle.
Demetrios Basdekas, concerned citizen - expressed
support for the Sheriff and other law enforcement
agencies. He stated that a 5t salary increase was
a step in the right direction but that it should be
more. Also, he believed elected
officials /Department heads should receive a 5a
increase.
• Ernie Laney, Interim Director of Information
Technology Department requested funds for internet
access equipment, increased line items for vehicle
maintenance and gasoline and upgraded the number of
computers needed for the coming year to 440.
Isaac Butler, Constable, Precinct 5 - told the
Court that he would make his requests after the
redistricting process was completed.
C. Jack Hunter, Agriculture Extension Agent - asked
for clarification of the computer supply line item
because there was nothing budgeted. He was told
that all computer supplies will be in the
Information Technology Department budget.
There being no further comment, the County Judge declared
the Public hearing closed.
