APRIL 17, 2001
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in
a Workshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at
10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2001, with the following
members of the Court present:

Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2;

The Commissioners Court met in Workshop Session to
r
discuss the following items:
a) Discussion of Retiree Monthly Premiums
for Group Medical/Dental Insurance.
Since January 1, 2001, the County has
been paying the retirees' monthly
insurance premium. The Court recently
learned that the County cannot do this.
• The 16 who are affected will not be
required to refund the premium amounts
that have already been paid. The
Commissioners Court will have to
determine an amount to charge retirees
for coverage. The consultant recommends
$80 per month for the retiree and
$129.96 for coverage for the retiree and
spouse.
b) Discussion of the county Health and Life
Fund.
The County Auditor presented an overview
of the Health and Life Fund. There was
considerable discussion on finding a way
to re-establish a reserve so as to
continue to pay claims.
C) Discussion of Compensatory Time.
The County Judge was concerned about the
number of hours on the books. The Court
discussed asking the department heads to
require the employees to take comp time.
