BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
WORKSHOP SESSION

THE COMMISSIONERS COURT WILL MEET IN A WORKSHOP SESSION ON
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2000 AT 2:00 P.M. IN THE COMMISSIONERS
COURTROOM OF THE BRAZOS COUNTY COURTHOUSE, 300 EAST 26TH STREET,
SUITE 115, BRYAN, TEXAS.
THE PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP IS FOR A DISCUSSION RELATIVE TO
REVISIONS TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WITHIN BRAZOS COUNTY TO
INCLUDE:
a. Expansion of the misdemeanor jurisdiction to District Courts.
b. The creation of a magistrate's position.
C. 4 • Consolidation of the County Attorney and District Attorney positions.
d. Creation of a 15* Court of Appeals.
The Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for

COMMISSIONERS' COURT
WORKSHOP SESSION
NOVEMBER 21, 2000
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in
a Workshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 2:00
p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2000, with the following
members of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.
I Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The Commissioners Court met in Workshop Session to
discuss the following:
1. Expansion of the misdemeanor jurisdiction to
District Courts. J. D. Langley, Judge, 85"
District Court stated cases could be handled in a
better manner.
2. The creation of a magistrate's position. The
consensus of opinion was that this would free up
the judges' time.
3. Consolidation of the County Attorney and
District Attorney positions. There was opposition
to this.
4. Creation of a 15`" Court of Appeals. Brazos
County is the only county that has to use three
appeals courts.
The County Judge summarized the meeting by saying that
there was no opposition to items 1, 2 & 4, some opposition
to item 3. He then asked the attorneys and office holders
to write a summary of support or objection to the four
bills. He then thanked Judge Langley for all his work on
these bills.
