NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT

The Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas will hold a Public Hearing to consider the
posting of speed limits on Peach Creek Road located in Precinct 1.
The place of the hearing will be the Commissioners Courtroom, Brazos County Courthouse, 300
• East 26`" Street, Suite 115, Bryan, Texas. The date of the hearing will be Tuesday, May 30, 2000
and the time of the hearing will be 10:00 a.m.
All interested persons are invited to attend said hearing and present their cause, if any, for or against
the posting of speed limits on Peach Creek Road.
The Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for
sign interpretive services must be made two business days before the meeting. To make

COMMISSIONERS' COURT
PUBLIC HEARING
MAY 30, 2000
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a
Public Hearing to consider the posting of speed limits on
Peach Creek Road in Precinct 1. The meeting was held in the
Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos
County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30,
2000, with the following members of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4, Absent;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The purpose of the Public Hearing was to hear commentary
for and against the proposed posting of speed limits on Peach
Creek Road in Precinct 1.
The County Judge turned the meeting over to Ray Crow,
Engineering Aide for the Road and Bridge Department, who
proceeded to tell the Court that two locations on Peach Creek
Road were used for the traffic study. The average speed from
Peach Creek Road to Peach Creek Cutoff was 46.30 miles per
hour. The average speed from Peach Creek Road to Sulphur
j Springs Road was 41.84 miles per hour. Based on the traffic
counts and the average percentiles, he recommended that the
speed limit be set at 45 miles per hour along the entire
stretch of the road.
Charles Ellis, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2,
recommended a speed limit of 35 miles per hour but said he
would settle for 40 miles per hour.
Henry Allen also recommended a speed limit of 40 miles
per hour and a stop sign at Sulphur Springs Road.

Jeff McDowell also recommended a speed limit of 40 miles

Ray Crow outlined the guidelines set out by TxDot
concerning the setting of speed limits and advisory signs.
Darlene Locke asked for a sign saying "Children at Play"
be posted.
There being no further comment, the County Judge declared
the Public hearing closed.
