THE PLACE OF THE HEARING WILL BE THE COMMISSIONERS COURTROOM, BRAZOS COUNTY COURTHOUSE, 300 EAST 26TH STREET, SUITE 115, BRYAN, TEXAS. THE DATE OF THE HEARING WILL BE APRIL 1,1999 AND THE TIME OF THE HEARING WILL BE 5:30 P.M. The Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for sign interpretive services must be made two business days before the meeting. The hearing was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 1999, with the following members of the Court present: Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding; Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4; Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk. Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance. The purpose of the Public Hearing was to hear commentary for and against the creation of the proposed Rural Fire Prevention District. The County Judge called the meeting to order and opened the Public Hearing on the petition. He then referenced and read aloud the petition for the election for the creation of a Rural Fire Prevention District and asked for comments from the public. Commissioner Sims explained the taxing amount will not exceed $.03 per $100 dollar valuation of property in the District. The following people spoke: 1. Pat Whelan: Asked if the $.03 rate was the maximum? Commissioner Sims replied it was the maximum and only the Legislature could change it. 2. Naomi Fackler - spoke on behalf of the Petition and gave it her full support. 3. James Biehn - stated that he hated to see another tax that they were over taxed as + it was. t r ~ the creation of the District. He then outlined the services of the first responder and BMT's 5. Donald Lampo - Chief of Precinct 2 Volunteer Fire Department, spoke on the amount of tax in the established Districts and supported the petition. 6. Demetrios Basdekas - spoke in support of the Fire District and asked why the county cannot underwrite these districts without establishing other taxing entities. 7. Commissioner Tony Jones - spoke in support of the District and spoke on the services provided by the Precinct 1 Rural Fire Prevention District.
