TEXAS F11 ED !A.S. iLA,.5 By NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT • The Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas will hold a Public Hearing to consider the lowering of speed limits on North Dowling Road from Quail Run Drive to Hoppes Creek Road located in Precinct 1. The place of the hearing will be the Commissioners Courtroom, Brazos County Courthouse, Suite 115, 300 East 26th Street, Bryan, Texas. The date of the hearing will be Tuesday, October 20, 1998 and the time of the hearing will be 10:00 a.m. All interested persons are invited to attend said hearing and present their cause, if any, for or against the lowering of speed limits on North Dowling Road. The building is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for sign interpretive services must be made two business days before the meeting. To make arrangements, call (409) 361-4102. • VC) Ai~h.~ k COMMISSIONERS' COURT PUBLIC HEARING OCTOBER 20, 1998 The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a Public Hearing to consider lowering of speed limits on North Dowling Road from Quail Run Drive to Hoppes Creek Road. The meeting was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 1998, with the following members of the Court present: Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding; Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4; Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk. Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance. The purpose of the Public Hearing was to hear commentary for and against the proposed reduction of speed limits on North Dowling Road from Quail Run Drive to Hoppes Creek Road. The County Judge turned the meeting over to Commissioner Jones who proceeded to tell the Court that based on the traffic count and the average percentile, the speed limit could be reduced from 50 mph to 45 mph. He also recommended. having the road patrolled for traffic violators. Ray Crow, Engineering Aid, elaborated on the procedure for posting speed limit signs throughout the county. The following people spoke: 1. Dan Williams does not believe that posting signs will help unless there are traffic officers on site. 2. Cindy Flannigan agreed with Mr. Williams. 3. 4. 5. w Robert Perez also stated the need for officers to work traffic. Commissioner Sims asked if anyone has gotten the license numbers of those vehicles exceeding the speed limit. Chris Kirk, Sheriff, stated that since Septem).)er more patrol units have been placed in the area, along with DPS VQL~ f t" • • 0 troopers. They will continue to work the area with hand held radar. 6. Richard Vance, County Engineer stated that violators of the stop sign should be ticketed. Because of road improvements there may be more violators. 7. Commissioner Jones recommended reducing the speed limit to 45 mph on the straight away and 40 mph on the curve. He also said that he would visit the fraternity house and inform the students about the speed limits and ask for their help.
