BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
SEPTEMBER 11, 1997
Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held in the 85th District Courtroom (Room
224) of the Brazos County Courthouse, 300 East 26th Street, Bryan, Texas on Thursday,
September 11, 1997 at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the realignment of Justice of the
Peace and Constable Precincts for Brazos County.
Interested parties are invited to attend and be heard at this time.
The Brazos Center is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces arc available. Any request
for sign interpretive services must be made 48 hours before the meeting. To make arrangements.

SEPTEMBER 11, 1997
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a
Public Hearing in the 85th District Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, on Thursday,
September 11, 1997, beginning at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of
discussing the realignment of Justice of the Peace and
Constable Precincts for Brazos County. The following members
of the Court were present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The purpose of the Public Hearing was to hear commentary
for and against the proposed realignment of Justice of the
Peace and Constable Precincts for Brazos County. The County
Judge opened the meeting at 6:10 p.m.. He then made a
presentation on financial matters, population by precinct, and
presented charts comparing Brazos County with other counties.
He then turned the floor over to Greg Hudson, representative
of the Bickerstaff law firm. Mr. Hudson commented on the
legality of the realignment, explained the procedure for
submission to the Justice Department and presented population
charts showing the current configuration of the Justice of the
Peace and Constable Precincts and the proposed configuration.
The following individuals spoke and /or questioned the
purpose for the realignment.
Tommy Lyons, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 -
asked if the county was in violation of Federal or
State Law and who was asking for the changes.
Gary Griffin, Resident of the Millican community -
made a presentation on the equity and convenience
of the people.
Tom McDonald, Senior District Judge - presented a
history of Brazos County, specifically the Millican
area and Justice of the Peace Precinct Number 1.

The County Judge opened the floor for a brief session of
questions and answers.
The County Judge thanked those in attendance for their
commentary then declared the Public Hearing closed.
