BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
AUGUST 49 1997
Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held in Assembly Room II of
the Brazos Center, 3232 Briarcrest Drive, Bryan, Texas on Monday, August 4,
1997 at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the realignment of Justice of the
Peace and Constable Precincts for Brazos County.
Interested parties are invited to attend and be heard at this time.
The Brazos Center is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request • ; ;
for sign interpretive services must be made 48 hours before the meeting. To make arrangements.

PUBLIC HEARING
AUGUST 4, 1997
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a
Public Hearing in Assembly Room II of the Brazos Center, 3232
Briarcrest Drive, Bryan, Texas on Monday, August 4, 1997 at
7:00 p.m. to discuss the realignment of Justice of the Peace
and Constable Precincts for Brazos County. The following
members of the Court were present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge,
Presiding;
Tony Jones, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Wm. S. Thornton, Commissioner
of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.

The purpose of the Public Hearing was to hear commentary
for and against the proposed realignment of Justice of the
Peace and Constable Precincts for Brazos County.
The County Judge opened the meeting, laid the ground
rules for citizens wishing to speak allowing each speaker
three (3) minutes and then turned the meeting over to Greg
Hudson, representative of Bickerstaff, Heath and Smiley.
This legal firm was charged with preparing various proposals
for the consolidation and realignment of the Justice of the
Peace and Constable Precincts.
Mr . Hudson presented an overview of Revised Plan A and
Plan B outlining how they varied from the existing precincts,
and the demographics of each plan. He reviewed the process
for making the changes and pre- clgarance by the Justice
Department.
Tom Lyons, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 - presented
statistical information relating to the revenue and cost of
the existing Justices and Constables.
After having heard from all the citizens wishing to
speak, the County Judge closed the Public Hearing.
