COMMISSIONERS COURT MEETING
AGENDA
The Commissioners Court will meet in special session on Friday, October 11, 1996 at 10:30
a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Brazos County Courthouse, 300 East 26th
Street, Suite 115, Bryan, Texas.
1. Invocation - Commissioner Cauley.
2. Pledge of Allegiance - Commissioner Cauley.
3. Call for Executive Session in accordance with Section 551.074 of the Texas Open
Meetings Act regarding personnel matters to discuss the appointment of a Justice of
the Peace, Precinct 5.
4. Consider and take action on Executive Session.
5. Adjourn.
The Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request
for sign interpretive services must be made 48 hours before the meeting. To make arrangements,

SPECIAL MEETING
OCTOBER 11, 1996
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos
County, Texas was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:30
a.m. on Friday, October 11, 1996, with the following members
of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding;
Gary Norton, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Sandie Walker, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of citizens and officials in
attendance.
Commissioner Cauley, gave the invocation and led the
pledge of allegiance.
The Count Judge informed those in attendance that after

public comments the Court would move into Executive Session to
consider the candidates for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5.
He then read aloud the names of the candidate in the order the
letters were received. Then, he outlined the qualifications
for the position of -Justice of the Peace and read aloud the
names of those not qualified and who would not be considered.

comment to limit themselves to five (5) minutes then opened
the floor to discussion.
Antone Dobrovolny, Jr. - spoke in support of Hallie
Dobrovolny.
Ramiro Quintero - Outlined his qualifications
stressing his minority status and .that he is
bilingual.
Dave Burdett - spoke on his behalf pledging to do
the best job for all in the county
Hallie Dobrovolny - stated her qualification
stressing the fact that she worked on a voluntary
} basis along side Judge Dobrovolny.
At 10:45 a.m. the County Judge announced the meeting
' closed to the public so that the Court could meet in closed

executive session to discuss personnel as allowed under
Section .
At 12:48 a.m. the County Judge announced the meeting open
to the public. The County Judge moved to appoint Dave Burdett
to the office of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Sims. Commissioner Sims and the
County Judge voted "Aye". Commissioners Norton, Walker and
Cauley voted "No". The motion failed. Commissioner Cauley
moved to appoint Hallie Dobrovolny to the office of Justice of
the Peace, Precinct 5. Commissioner Norton seconded the
motion. Commissioners Norton and Cauley voted "Aye".
Commissioners Walker and Sims and the County Judge voted "No".
The motion failed. Commissioner Norton moved to appoint Ron
Miller to the office of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Walker. Commissioners
Norton and Walker voted "Aye". Commissioners Sims, Cauley and
the County Judge voted "No". The motion failed. The County
Judge asked if there were any other nominations. Commissioner
Sims moved to appoint Dave Burdett to the office of Justice of
the Peace, Precinct 5. The motion was seconded by the County
Judge. Commissioner Sims and the County Judge voted "Aye".
Commissioners Norton, Walker and Cauley voted "No". The
motion failed.
Since the Court could not reach a consensus, the meeting
was adjourned.
