NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
The Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas will hold a Public Hearing to consider the
posting of speed limits on Timberline Drive in Precinct 1.
The place of the hearing will be the Commissioners' Courtroom, Brazos County Courthouse,
Room 115, 300 East 26th Street, Bryan, Texas. The date of the hearing will be Tuesday, April
9, 1996 and the time of the hearing will be 10:30 a.m.
All interested persons are invited to attend said hearing and present their cause, if any, for or
against the posting of speed limits on Timberline Drive in Precinct 1.
The building is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for
sign interpretive services must be made 48 hours before the meeting. To make arrangements,

PUBLIC HEARING
APRIL 9, 1996
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a
Public Hearing to consider traffic Regulation on various
county roads pursuant to Section 2.301 of the County Road and
Bridge Act, Art. 6702-1 subchapter D, Vernons Civil Statutes
in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan,
Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday,
April 9, 1996, with the following members of the Court
present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Absent;
Gary Norton, Commissioner of Precinct 1, Presiding;
Sandie Walker, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.
The following citizens and officials were in attendance:

The purpose of the Public Hearing was to hear commentary
for and against the posting of speed limits on Timberline
Drive in Precinct 1. r
Commissioner Norton gave an overview of the speed limits

in the County most particularly in Precinct 1, explaining that X
previously set speed limits had not been done properly.
Ray Crow, representative of the Road and Bridge

Department explained the proper procedures for traffic study
and investigation, various matters to be considered when `
attempting to set a speed limit and the type of equipment

_ tneeded to determine the 85 percentile. The average speed on
Timberline Drive was 47.31 miles per hour and by using the 85

percentile he recommended a speed limit of 45 miles per hour.
He also said that once the speed limit is set, advisory signs
can be posted on speed limit in curves.
Ervin Cain, resident of the area, produced a map and
pictures of the area in opposition to the recommended speed f;
limit and suggested that Timberline be posted no more than i
Dowling Road which has a 40 miles per hour speed limit.
Commissioner Sims asked what advisory sign would say
whereupon Mr. Crow answered that it was a yellow sign with
advised speed in curve.
There being no further commentary, Commissioner Norton
declared the Public Hearing closed.
