NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
The Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas will hold a Public Hearing to consider a tax
abatement agreement with Sanderson Farms, Inc.
The place of the hearing will be the Commissioners' Courtroom, Brazos County Courthouse,
Room 115, 300 East 26th Street, Bryan, Texas. The date of the hearing will be Wednesday,
December 13, 1995 and the time of the hearing will be 10:00 a.m.
All interested persons are invited to attend said hearing and present their cause, if any, for or
against the tax abatement agreement for Sanderson Farms, Inc.
The building is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for
sign interpretive services must be made 48 hours before the meeting. To make arrangements,

The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a

Public Hearing to consider the designation of 350 acres of
land lying and being situated in the S. F. Austin League No. .
r
9, A-62 And the Thomas F. McKinney League, A-33 Brazos County
Texas as a reinvestment zone for the purpose of attracting
investment and expanding employment in this area, all in
accordance with Chapter 312 of the Texas Tax Code. The
meeting was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00
a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 1995, with the following
members of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding; f
Gary Norton, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Sandie Walker, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4, Absent;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.
The following citizens and officials were in attendance:
Ruth McLeod Executive Assistant
Susan Gandy Secretary to County Judge
Phyllis C. Fahlquist League of Women Voters
Jay Don Watson Sanderson Farms, Inc.
Oliver Fields Brazos County Resident
Tony Jones Brazos County Resident
Chip Lambert Bryan/College Station Eagle
Mark O'Connor Brazos County Resident
A The purpose of the Public Hearing was to hear commentary
for and against the proposed designation of 350 acres of land
lying and being situated in the S. F. Austin League No. 9, A-
62 And the Thomas F. McKinney League, A-33 Brazos County Texas
as a reinvestment zone for the purpose of attracting
investment and expanding employment in this area. The County
Judge opened the hearing and asked for comments from the
public.
Oliver Fields - Asked what an abatement was and
then after being informed, voiced opposition saying
it was welfare for the wealthy.
County Judge - explained tax abatement for new
construction for economic recruitment.
Commissioner Sims - addressed the number of jobs
for the community that the industry would provide.
Commissioner Norton - noted that there would be a
minimum of 2,500 jobs for the community and that
the county must look at the whole picture and what
is best for the county.
Mark O'Connor - read a prepared statement in
opposition to the tax abatement for Sanderson Farms
and the construction of a poultry processing plant
in Brazos County.
There being no further commentary, the county Judge
thanked those in attendance and declared the Public Hearing
closed.
