COMMISSIONERS' COURT
WORKSHOP SESSION
DECEMBER 1, 1995
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in a
Workshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse
in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday,
December 1, 1995, with the following members of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Absent;
Gary Norton, :ommissioner of Precinct 1;
Sandie Walker, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.

The Court met to discuss the following items:
1) Request from Texas Agricultural Experiment Station:
The County Agent presented the staffing patterns and funding as
developed by the State. Dr. Mazurkiewicz presented an overview of
the new funding which would require an additional $15,000 for 1996.
He indicated the State would like to see the County provide half of
the funding this January and make the other available October 1,
1996. Commissioner Cauley presented a letter from Representative
Kubiak stating that the State received 100% of the appropriated
funding and questioned what happened to the funds and why the local
Agents did not receive raises from the State.
2) Travel Policy:
The -Travel Policy was tabled until such time as the draft copy
dated October 9, 1995 could be distributed to the Elected Officials
and Department Heads for comments.
3) Purchasing Department:
The Creation of the Purchasing Department was discussed at length.
The department would require three employees in addition to the
Purchasing agent. The Court questioned if the Auditor's staff
would be reduced due to the transfer of the purchasing duties of
employees in the Auditor's office.
4) Brazos 20/20:
The task of Brazos 20/20 Vision has been completed. Commissioner
Norton asked what was to be done with the study. Florita Griffin
offered her private business to move forward with implementation of
the 20/20 Vision guidelines at a cost of approximately $6,000 from
each of the nine entities for a total of $54,000. Commissioner
Sims feels the Board needs to prepare a budget to facilitate the
plans and prepare a mission statement.
