BUDGET HEARING

SEPTEMBER 26, 1995
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in
a Budget Hearing in the 85th District Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00
a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 1995, with the following
members of the Court present:
Alvin W. Jones, County Judge, Presiding;
Gary Norton, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Sandie Walker, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey.Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Mary Ann Ward, County Clerk.

The County Judge announced the Public Hearing open and
proceeded to go through the General Fund Budget department by
department:

County Attorney - The County Judge explained the
increase in this budget
Jail - The .County Judge announced there was a
proposed 10% reduction in the salary category of
the jail budget. This was due to the reduction of
the inmate population when TDC prisoners were
moved. Pam Perez, Rev. G. H. Jones, Karen Jones,
John Perez, Doug Tremain, David Pritchard and
Daphne Weedon asked questions and spoke in
opposition of the reduction of jail personnel.
Charles Ellison spoke on behalf of the reduction of
the jail budget due to the reduction of the inmate
population.
Juvenile Services - Commissioner Sims stated that
he felt the compensation for the Juvenile Board
should be reduced to $600.00 each member.
Constable Precinct 3 - Derik Matejka asked the
Court to consider paying the charges for his mobil
phone. Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Ray
Truelove, spoke on behalf of Constable Matejka and
the value of contacting the constable when needed.
Commissioner Cauley voiced concern about the jail budget
and proposed there be a "no hire" policy for the jail to allow
the jail to reach the required reduction.
There being no further comments, the County Judge
announced the Public Hearing closed and announced the meeting
to adopt the budget would be held at 1:00 p.m. in the
Commissioners Courtroom.
