2. Commissioners Court discussion of Operational Review of County Procedures.
Judge Peters called the meeting to Order at 9:30 a.m. and stated that the purpose of
this workshop is to address Commissioner Brown's request regarding a committee to
review the County's efficiency.
Commissioner Brown explained that his goal is to increase County efficiency and
provide greater transparency to the public. Specifically, he discussed making the County
website more user-friendly, increasing discussion on agenda items and providing more
insight into County services and resources. Judge Peters added that one of the
County's many resources and efficiencies is the Tax Office's online system for property
tax payments.
Commissioner Watson clarified that Commissioner Brown's request is for the County to
improve transparency and communication with the public. She stated it is incumbent
upon the members of the Commissioners Court to meet with staff members to address
issues and generate solutions.Additionally, Commissioner Watson suggested the
Commissioners hold more Town Halls within each of their precincts.
The Court then entered into discussion on the directives and selection of the committee.
Judge Peters recommended keeping the committee small and possibly having each
Court member select one person to serve. Commissioner Konderla agreed with
keeping the committee small and expressed concern regarding selection of members
with the right expertise. Commissioner Nettles stated that there is certainly room for
improvement within the County to streamline processes and increase transparency and.
accountability. He stressed the importance in the Court providing clear guidance on the
expectations of the committee and setting parameters to select the appropriate
members.
Judge Peters suggested that Commissioner Brown and Commissioner Nettles draft a
plan for committee selection and directives, then present that plan at another Workshop.
Commissioner Nettles and Commissioner Brown agreed to do so.
The workshop session was adjourned at 9:56 a.m.
