IN THE COMMISSIONERS COURTROOM OF THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 200 SOUTH TEXAS AVENUE, SUITE 106, BRYAN, TEXAS 77803. Ratification of the property tax increase due to the adoption of a budget that will require more revenue from property taxes than in the previous year. The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a Public Hearing at the Brazos County Administration Building in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022, with the following members of the Court present: Duane Peters, County Judge, Presiding; Steve Aldrich, Commissioner of Precinct 1, Absent; Russ Ford, Commissioner of Precinct 2, Absent; Nancy Berry, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Irma Cauley, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Karen McQueen, County Clerk. Attached is, a list of the citizens and -officials in attendance. The County Judge called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. and invited others to speak. Upon advise from General Counsel Bruce Erratt, Judge Peters announced there is a quorum present for the meeting. Commissioner Berry asked Mr. Erratt if the Court could discuss the variety of projects that may not be funded during this portion of the meeting. Mr. Erratt stated that according to the agenda comments can be made by public or by the Court. Judge Peters commented that 35% of the budget. is mandatory funding but it vol. pg. is the other items such as road maintenance that he is concerned about. Commissioner Cauley stated there are several roads in Precinct 4 that are in dire need of repair and has had calls from citizens about those roads. She added that she is also concerned about the ability to hire more staff for the'Sfieriff's Office. Commissioner Berry noted although the county is growing, we may find ourselves in a hiring freeze. Discussions then turned to the lack of Mental Health services and how that may be addressed without the additional funding. There being no one else wishing to speak, the County Judge announced the next meeting for possible action on the Tax Increase will be Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 1.0:00 a.m. in the County Commissioners' courtroom. PROPOSED TAX RATE NO -NEW -REVENUE TAX RATE VOTER -APPROVAL TAX RATE $0.483500 per $100 $0.429411 per $100 $0.518466 per $100 The no -new -revenue tax rate is the tax rate for the 2022 tax year that will raise the same amount of property tax revenue for Brazos County from the same properties in both the 2021 tax year and the 2022 tax year. The voter -approval rate is the highest tax rate that Brazos County may adopt without holding an election to seek voter approval of the rate. The proposed tax rate is greater than the no -new -revenue tax rate. This means that Brazos County is proposing to increase property taxes for the 2022 tax year. A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED TAX RATE WILL BE HELD ON October 10, 2022 AT 02:00 PM AT Commissioners Courtroom, 200 S Texas Avenue, Ste. 106, Bryan, TX 77803. The proposed tax rate is not greater than the voter -approval tax rate. As a result, Brazos County is not required to hold an election at which voters may accept or reject the proposed tax rate. However, you may express your support for or opposition to the proposed tax rate by contacting the members of the Brazos County Commissioners Court of Brazos County at their offices or by attending the public hearing mentioned a bove. For the current tax year, the amount of increase above last year's enhanced indigent health care expenditures is $167,728. This increased the no -new -revenue maintenance and operations rate by $0.000765/$100.
