BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
PUBLIC HEARING
The court will hear comments on the proposed budget for the fiscal year ending
September 30, 2022. All interested parties are invited to attend said hearing and
present their cause, if any, for or against the proposed budget.
This budget will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by an amount of
$3,660,420 which is a 3.97 percent increase from last year's budget. The property tax
revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year is $2,249,171.43..
The proposed budget is filed with the County Clerk and will remain-on file in the office of -
the County Clerk in accordance with existing state statutes. All interested parties are
urged to acquaint themselves with said budget during the time it remains on file with the
County Clerk. For your convenience, the proposed budget has also been placed on the
county website at: https://www.brazoscountytx.gov.
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a Public Hearing at the Brazos
County Administration Building in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, at 1:30 p.m. on
Tuesday,August 31, 2021,with the following members of the Court present:
Duane Peters, County Judge, Presiding;
Steve Aldrich, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Russ Ford, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Nancy Berry, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Irma Cauley, Commissioner of Precinct 4,
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance.
The purpose of the hearing isto hear commentary on the proposed budget for fiscal
year ending September 30, 2022. Judge Peters invited others to speak.
Jay Meador, Director of the Financial Fitness Center asked that the Court consider
redistributing a portion of MHMR funds to Brazos Valley Center for Independent Living,
as they provide great services to people with mental and physical challenges.
Judge Peters explained that the funds allocated to MHMR are for services that MHMR
provides to Brazos County and that they are unable to just redistribute the funds.
Commissioner Cauley invited Mr. Meador to give a presentation on Brazos Valley Center
for Independent Living at a future Commissioners Court date, to which Mr. Meador

agreed.
Commissioner Berry added that there could be potential CARES Act funds for a
business that provides mental health services to the community.
Sheriff Wayne Dicky then addressed the Court regarding the Sheriff's Office requested
Proposed Budget Amendments. He thanked the Court for their support through the
years but insisted that in order for the Sheriff's Office to continue advancing their mission
by developing the next generation of dedicated Law Enforcement Leaders that they
need to be able to retain quality employees through competitive salaries.
Judge Peters stated that he feels the Court has provided adequate funding to the
Sheriff's Office in an effort to address their needs but that the funds are limited due to
many other needs throughout the County.
Commissioner Berry thanked the Sheriffs Office for doing a great job.
Commissioner Ford asked if the Sheriff would consider having a Needs Assessment
performed in order to better assess the highest priorities for funding at the Sheriff's
Office. Sheriff Dicky stated he's more than willing to participate in that. He then reiterated
to the Court that although he's appreciative of the support given, he feels that now is the
time to take the next step toward furthering their goals.
There being no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned.
