The County Judge called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. and explained that new legislature requires the Tax Assessor/Collector to take the exact amount on property taxes. Judge Peters spoke about some of the issues concerning the roll back cap. He stated he does not see how the County can continue accepting split payments with the requirement of a mandatory election if an entity goes over the 3 1/2 percent. He said that we have allowed split payments as a service to the citizens even though many counties do not offer this option. Brazos County Tax Assessor/Collector Kristy Roe voiced her concerns and stressed that the earlier a decision can be made the better, so that they can inform the public. She said that about 10 percent of the population utilizes the split pay option. VCA. 3la p9. Judge Peters mentioned that if the decision is made to stop split payments, it will also prevent other entities from collecting split payments.
