Texas Ave., Suite 106, Bryan, Texas is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for sign interpretive services must be made two working days before the meeting. MINUTES SEPTEMBER 5, 2018 BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT WORKSHOP SESSION Call to Order The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in a Workshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Brazos County Administration Building in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 with the following members of the Court present: Duane Peters, County Judge, Presiding; Steve Aldrich, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Sammy Catalena, Commissioner of Precinct 2, Absent; Nancy Berry, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Irma Cauley, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Karen McQueen, County Clerk, Absent. Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance. The County Judge called the meeting to order. Presentation and discussions regarding facility dogs. The Court participated in a presentation and discussion regarding facility dogs. Executive Director of Scotty's House, Cary Baker introduced facility dogs Sawyer and Molly. Mrs. Baker explained the difference between service dogs and facility dogs. Sawyer will be working with the children at Scotty's House. She said service dogs are trained for one specific disability whereas facility dogs are trained to handle different situations and not one disability. Celeste Walsen and Ellen O'Neill -Stephens with Courthouse Dogs Foundation were also present to inform the Court on the use of facility dogs. Ms. Walsen said that Sawyer was chosen because of his calm and quiet temperament. These dogs are professionally trained to provide a calming influence for children who are going through stressful legal proceedings. Commissioner Cauley expressed concern for children who may be afraid of dogs. Mrs. Baker assured Commissioner Cauley that they would make sure the child is comfortable before they have contact with Sawyer. The program PAWS for Hope will be launched in mid October. 3.
