IN THE COMMISSIONERS COURTROOM OF THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 200 SOUTH TEXAS AVENUE, SUITE 106, BRYAN, TEXAS. THE COURT WILL HEAR COMMENTS ON THE PROPOSED TAX INCREASE FOR 2017. INTERESTED PARTIES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND SAID HEARING AND PRESENT THEIR CAUSE, IF ANY FOR OR AGAINST THE TAX INCREASE FOR 2017. MINUTES AUGUST 22, 2017 BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT PUBLIC HEARING The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a Public Hearing at the Brazos County Administration Building in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, with the following members of the Court present: Duane Peters, County Judge, Presiding; Steve Aldrich, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Sammy Catalena, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Nancy Berry, Commissioner of Precinct 3, Absent; Irma Cauley, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Karen McQueen, County Clerk. Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance. The purpose of the hearing is to hear commentary on the proposed tax increase for 2017. The County Judge called the meeting to order at 1:45 p.m. and invited others to speak Resident James Cramp asked if the tax rate would remain the same. Judge Peters answered yes the proposal is to remain the same. Mr. Cramp said that there is an 11.1 % average increase on property values and to say the tax rate is the same is disingenuous. Mr. Cramp said it is obscene to charge this much and feels that officials are spending money like drunken sailors. Judge Peters explained that the largest part of taxes is for schools. He said that counties and cities are forced to fund more while the state funds less. wit Commissioner Aldrich commented that House Bill 21 is being discussed in the legislature. Commissioner Aldrich said he appreciates Mr. Cramp being here to voice his concern and that the Court is also concerned. He said that we all need to work together to find a better solution. Judge Peters announced the date for the second Public Hearing on the proposed tax increase will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Brazos County Commissioners' Courtroom. He also announced that the adoption of the tax increase WE be on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. during the regular Commissioners' Court meeting. With no one else wishing to offer commentary for or against the proposed tax increase the County Judge adjourned the meeting. VOL P9: � .
