This emergency meeting is being scheduled in order for the Commissioners Court to take appropriate action as required by state law to declare and extend a local state of disaster. Immediate action is required by Commissioners Court due to an imminent threat to the public health and safety as a result of the seven: weather and flooding that has occurred in Brazos County and anticipated conditions conducive to flooding. Vol. 3 Pg. _ / MINUTES JUNE 1, 2016 Emergency Meeting Call to Order An emergency meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas was held in Suite 332, of the Brazos County Administration Building, 200 South Texas Avenue,in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 with the following members of the Court present: Duane Peters, County Judge, Presiding; Lloyd Wassermann, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Sammy Catalena, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3, Absent; I rma Cauley, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Karen McQueen, County Clerk, Absent. The attached sheets contain the names of the citizens and officials that were in attendance. The County Judge opened the meeting. 2. Consider and possible action on an extention of declaration of a local state of disaster. Bethany Jones, Executive Assistant to the County Judge stated that today was the last day that an extension of the original disaster declaration could be approved. Mrs. Jones said that by approving this it would extend the declaration an additional thirty (30) days. On motion by Commissioner Catalena and seconded by Commissioner Cauley, the Court voted unanimously to extend the Declaration of a Local State of Disaster. Emergency Management Director Michelle Meade updated the Court on the current conditions. Mrs. Meade said that there were a lot of residents affected by the recent floods and tomado, but we were lucky that there was no loss of life, only loss of property. Ms. Meade stated that the most severe water damage is in the southern part of Vol.__ _ pg Z the county. She said that she is waiting to get more updates from the Road and Bridge Department on the road conditions. Ms. Meade also noted that FEMA should be arriving early nextweekto give assistance. Emergency Management Assistant Chris Martin stated that the City of Bryan is currently in the process of assembling teams to assess the damage. Mr. Martin said that looking at the current weather forecast, we are in for three (3) to five (5) more inches of rain over the next three (3) days. Ms. Meade stated that we may be looking at substantial agricultural loss. She also stated that she has received reports of flooding from the Brazos Center, the Juvenile Justice Center and the County Administration Building atrium. A copy of the Extension of Declaration of a Local State of Disaster is attached Motion: Approve, Moved by Commissioner Sammy Catalena, Seconded by Commissioner Irma Cauley. Passed. 4-0. Pursuant to § 418.01.8(b.) of the Texas Government Code, the state of disaster shall continue for a period of not more than thirty days from the date of this declaration extension unless continued as renewed by the Commissioners Court of Brazos County. 3. Pursuant to § 418.018(c) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration of a local slate of disaster shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the County Clerk. 4. Pursuant to § 418.018(d) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration of a local state of disaster continues the activation of the county emergency management plan. S. This order shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance and shall be related to activities that have occurred and will occur in conjunction with the event described above.
