Back up.ndf The County Judge called the meeting to order. The Court met in a workshop to hear a Vol. 202 Pg. 23-3 presentation from Union Pacific concerning railroad crossings in Brazos County. The County Judge then turned the floor over to Mr. Andrew Hudanish of Union Pacific who is the Manager of Industry and Public Projects. Mr. Hudanish gave an overview of the planned expansion projects totaling $25 million dollars. These would be for siding or passing track in Wellborn along with two new bridges and switches and then south of Millican, another siding project, no bridges and two switches. Three crossings will be affected. Straub Road falls right in the middle of these two projects. He asked if the County would be open to closing the crossing at Straub Road. Union Pacific would do all the work. Union Pacific is prepared to offer Brazos County assistance in other projects to help them out in this. The County Judge asked about the volume of traffic that will be affected by the closing of crossings. Alan Munger, County Engineer had figures from a traffic count study. Mr. Hudanish said roads would need to be widened but Union Pacific would be there to help. The County Judge asked if traffic would be affected at 5:00 pm when people are trying to get home. Would it spill back on to FM 2154? The energy business has picked up considerably and it is what is driving the increase in train business. The trains run every hour 24/7, 365. Commissioner Catalena asked about closing the crossing at Steel Store. Mr. Hudanish replied not Steel Store, but were considering closing Sims Crossing. Commissioner Wassermann brought up getting the right -of -way to do this. He voiced concern about the landowners being willing to give up the right -of -way. He also voiced concern about the increase in calls per week that he will be getting requesting a quiet zone. Another concern is the high number of subdivisions in his precinct that only have one way in and out of the subdivision. Closing crossings might increase the congestion in these subdivisions. 3.
