Call to order. 2. Presentation of the Brazos County Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2013 -2014. 3, Establish the date and time for a Public Hearina on the Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2013 -2014. 4, Proposal to Increase Tax Revenues. 5. Establish the dates and times for two Public Hearings for a Tax Revenue Increase. 6. Adjourn. The Commissioners Court of the Brazos County Administration Building, 200 South Texas Ave., Suite 108, Bryan, Texas Is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. W ,- - =I. A special session of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas was held in the Brazos County Commissioners Courtroom in the Administration Building, 200 South Texas Avenue, in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 with the following members of the Court present: Duane Peters, County Judge, Presiding; Loyd Wassermann, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Sammy Catalena, Commissioner of Precinct 2, Absent; Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Irma Cauley, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Karen McQueen, County Clerk. The attached sheets contain the names of the citizens and officials that were in attendance. 2. Presentation of the Brazos County Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2013 -2014. 10 FY 2014 Pr000sed Budaet.odf The County Judge opened the meeting and stated that counties in general are conservative in their budgets because the majority of revenue comes from property taxes and we are all tax payers. This year there is a slight increase from .485% to .4875 %. There is no COLA this year because the Court did not want to raise taxes more. There is merit pay budgeted for each department though. He went on to give a presentation on the budget figures. After the budget presentation, the County Judge asked if anyone wished to speak or had any questions. There were none. 3. Establish the date and time for a Public Hearing on the Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2013 -2014. SD Item 3.odf The Commissioners Court voted unanimously to hold a Public Hearing on the proposed budget on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom. Motion: Approve, Moved by Commissioner LLoyd Wassermann, Seconded by Commissioner Kenny Mallard. Passed. 4 -0. Members voting Aye: Cauley, , Mallard, Peters, Wassermann . Members Absent: Catalena . 4. Proposal to Increase Tax Revenues. 30 Item 4.odf The Commissioners Court voted unanimously to approve the proposal to increase taxes. The County Judge proposed a tax rate of $.4875 per hundred dollar valuation for the 2013 tax year. Motion: Approve, Moved by Commissioner Kenny Mallard, Seconded by Commissioner LLoyd Wassermann. Passed. 4 -0. Members voting Aye: Cauley, , Mallard, Peters, Wassermann . Members Absent: Catalena . 5. Establish the dates and times for two Public Hearings for a Tax Revenue Increase. 3 Item 5.odf The Commissioners Court voted unanimously to hold Public Hearings for a tax revenue increase on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 3:15 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Commissioners Courtroom. Kristy Roe, Tax Assessor /Collector announced that the publication of the effective tax rate will be in The Eagle tomorrow. Commissioner Mallard said that he appreciates the work everyone did on this budget. It was a tough process, the Court tried not to raise taxes and hopes everyone understands that. He hopes that next year is a better year and that the Court will be able to do more. The County Judge stated the Budget Office has the departmental proposed budget packets ready to pass out. The County Judge then asked again if there were any questions from those in attendance. There being none, the meeting was adjourned Motion: Approve, Moved by Commissioner LLoyd Wassermann, Seconded by Commissioner Kenny Mallard. Passed. 4 -0.
