WORKSHOP SESSION
Minutes
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in a Workshop Session in the
Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Place 1 Courtroom in the Brazos County Administration
Building in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 21,
2011 with the following members of the Court present:
Duane Peters, County Judge, Presiding;
Lloyd Wassermann, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Sammy Catalena, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Irma Cauley, Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance.
1. Presentation of Information concerning the creation of an Election Administration office.
Karen McQueen County Clerk, gave an overview of the position of Election Administrator
explaining how to create the position, the authority of the election commission, the
appointment of an administrator, eligibility and restrictions, general duties, and funding
the position. The County Judge asked if election workers are pulled from the County
Clerk and Tax office. If so, then would more staff be needed? He went on to say that he
was concerned about adding staff to her department and the Tax Office and there would
not be enough work throughout the year to justify the position. Also discussed were the
affects of bills to the two cites. Timing would not allow Brazos County to lease the cities
voting machines because of the run off. This would mean the cities would have to move

elections to November or purchase their own equipment.
2. Presentation of Information concerning the creation of Vote Centers.
Karen McQueen, County Clerk next gave an overview on Voter Centers explaining the
creation, requirements, and how they could be used in elections.
3. Presentation of Information on Election related bills.
Karen McQueen, County Clerk then spoke on election related bills.
4. Adjourn.
