Discussion with representative(s) from Brenco regarding the conversion to ethanol, and what modifications they recommend the County implement in preparation for this transition. 3. Office of the County Judge • 200 South TG~j~sLA~ a- PSG E 33~ LF, Bryan, Texas 77803 • Fax: (979) 361-4503 COMMISSIONERS' COURT WORKSHOP SESSION JUNE 30, 2009 The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in a Workshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 with the following members of the Court present: Randy Sims, County Judge, Presiding; Lloyd Wassermann, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Duane Peters, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4; Karen McQueen, County Clerk, Absent. Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in attendance. The Commissioner's Court met to discuss the conversion of vehicle fuel to ethanol, and what modifications Brenco recommends the County implement in preparation for this transition. Charles Wendt, Assistant Purchasing Agent, spoke on a letter from Brenco stating that because of Federal regulations, the company will be going to ethanol. Gary Foster, representative of Brenco spoke on ethanol. He answered the questions that the members of the court posed for him. He then went on to explain that the ethanol will be a Vol J ao~ Page 143 Commissioners Court Workshop June 30, 2009 2 loo blend. He stated that if the Commissioners were worried about water in the tanks, ethanol will attract water. He explained the process and told the Court to make sure the lids to the tanks were on tight. He suggested inspections to make sure water does not get into the tanks. If water does get into the tanks when it rains, you have a problem. In the past water could just be pumped out but that won't work with the ethanol. The County will have to hire a company to find where the water is entering the tank. He then said October 1, 2009 is the date for the conversion to ethanol. Richard Vance, County Engineer asked about problems with the ethanol and weed eaters, chain saws etc. He has heard that ethanol does not work with rubber. Mr. Foster stated that if you use gasoline, there is no problem with ethanol. He went on to say that Mr. Vance may be confusing this with locations up north that use 85% ethanol. This is only 10% ethanol.
