COMMISSIONERS' COURT
WORKSHOP SESSION
MARCH 4, 2008
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in a
Workshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00
a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 with the following members of
the Court present:
Randy Sims, County Judge, Presiding;
Lloyd Wassermann, Commissioner of Precinct l;
Duane Peters, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4, Absent;
Karen McQueen, County Clerk, Absent.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The Commissioner's Court met to review Brazos County's
Community Services funds and procedures. The County Judge
wanted to review the organizations being provided county
funds. He was concerned about funding the same organizations
as United Way and didn't want to duplicate services. As an
example, he cited Big Brothers and Sisters and the Boys and
Girls Club as being very similar. He thought it would make
sense to work with United Way and let them handle the
screening process for the County. He asked for a list of

organizations funded by the County. Commissioner Mallard said
that we may not need United Way to review funding applicants
for us but that we need to decide on goals. We need to know
what we want to accomplish with Community Support money. He
then asked Mr. Hank Roehack of United Way to provide the Court
with a copy of their application for service.
